Basic Milk Kefir Recipe

Basic Milk Kefir Recipe

30th July 2016 kefir recipes 0

Out of all the probiotic foods that I enjoy making, milk kefir is my absolute go to favourite!  It’s very easy to make, and it’s ready in just 24 hours, so smoothie heaven is waiting on my counter top each and every morning. Milk kefir can be made with either fresh live kefir grains, or with commercially available kefir culture powder.

Ingredients:
650ml fresh milk
3 to 4 tablespoons kefir grains, or one packet kefir culture powder

How to:
Place the milk and kefir grains or powder into a clean sterilized glass jar or Kefirko and mix together.  Cover with a clean dry cloth and secure with a rubber band.  Place the jar in a warm dry place for approximately 24 hours. It’s really that easy! If using grains, remove them for your next batch and make a lovely fruit smoothie out of the kefir.  If using culture powder, reserve 1/4 cup kefir and add it to your next batch.  Powdered kefir cultures can be re-cultured approximately 3 times.
